# Cline

> Select Nito as an OpenAI-compatible provider in Cline.

Create a `z_sk_` key in the [developer console](/web-app/developer-console). Select a chat model from the [catalog](/models/all-models), then open Cline's settings panel and choose **OpenAI Compatible** as the API provider. Enter:

| Setting | Value |
| :- | :- |
| Base URL | `https://app.trynito.ai/v1` |
| API Key | Your Nito API key |
| Model ID | A Nito catalog ID, such as `moonshotai/kimi-k3` |

The base URL ends at `/v1`. Cline adds the Chat Completions path. Use the exact model ID from the catalog; a `:confidential` variant selects Confidential inference when one is listed. If Cline asks for context or output limits, copy the model's published limits rather than guessing. Set image or tool capabilities only when the selected model supports them.

## Check the route

Send a one-sentence question first. Then ask Cline to inspect a file and propose a small edit to check its tool loop. A successful text reply alone does not establish that the selected model handles Cline's tool calls. The API key you enter here is for the Nito API; Cline's own account settings are separate.

## Troubleshooting

* A 401 means the key did not authenticate. Recheck the Nito key in Cline's **OpenAI Compatible** provider settings.
* A 404 usually means the URL includes an extra path or the model ID is missing from your accessible catalog.
* If text works but tool calls fail, check that the model's `supported_parameters` includes `tools` and review Cline's model configuration.
* If a `:confidential` ID is unavailable, choose one that the live catalog lists for your account.

Cline documents these fields in its [OpenAI Compatible provider guide](https://github.com/cline/cline/blob/main/docs/provider-config/openai-compatible.mdx).
