# Cursor

> Try Nito with Cursor's OpenAI base URL override.

Cursor offers an **Override OpenAI Base URL** setting for supported local Chat and Agent requests. Cursor staff describe [request-format limitations](https://forum.cursor.com/t/api-key-bug-report/161950/5) with custom OpenAI-compatible gateways. Treat this route as a compatibility check for your Cursor version and chosen model.

## Configure the override

1. Create a `z_sk_` key in the [developer console](/web-app/developer-console).
2. Open **Cursor Settings → Models**. Enter the key in the OpenAI API key field and set **Override OpenAI Base URL** to `https://app.trynito.ai/v1`.
3. Add or select a model ID that Cursor accepts and that appears in the [Nito catalog](/models/all-models). Send a short prompt in a local Chat session.

The override is global for Cursor's OpenAI route. It does not give each custom model a separate URL or key. Cursor's Tab completion and hosted agents continue using Cursor's own models. Test both a short text reply and a small Agent task before using the route for work.

## Known limits

Cursor may reject a model ID, especially one that collides with a built-in model, or send a request shape that the Nito endpoint cannot accept. A 400 response mentioning missing `messages` after Cursor sends `input` indicates this [request-format problem](https://forum.cursor.com/t/requests-are-sent-to-incorrect-endpoint-when-using-base-url-override/144894). Changing the model name does not repair that mismatch. Cursor's support team says custom gateways are [not fully supported](https://forum.cursor.com/t/api-key-bug-report/161950/5) through this override.

If the check fails, [OpenCode](/api/sdks/editor-integrations/opencode) and [Cline](/api/sdks/editor-integrations/cline) have explicit custom provider configuration. You can continue using Cursor as your editor while running one of those tools separately.

See Cursor's [API key settings](https://docs.cursor.com/settings/api-keys) for its supported BYOK scope.
