# Plugin FAQ

> Plugin questions, answered.

If you are brand new, start with [How It Works](/plugin/get-started/how-it-works). If something is broken, see [Troubleshooting](/help/plugin/troubleshooting).

* [**Getting started**](/help/plugin/getting-started): where commands run, `/nito:` versus `$nito:`, signing in, no API key.
* [**Privacy**](/help/plugin/privacy): what your harness sees, what `private` guarantees, the four levels, retention.
* [**Models and Fusion**](/help/plugin/models-and-fusion): switching models, asking several at once, finding what is available.
* [**Plans and usage**](/help/plugin/plans-and-usage): the free allowance, what paid unlocks, checking usage.
* [**Using the CLI**](/help/plugin/using-the-cli): whether you need the terminal, and what it is for.

## Top Questions

**Do I type Nito commands in my terminal or inside the chat?**
Inside a running Claude Code or Codex session, not your terminal. The exception is the `nito` [command line tool](/help/plugin/using-the-cli), which is the terminal.

**Does using the plugin send my question to Anthropic or OpenAI?**
It depends on the command. A plain `ask` is an ordinary turn in your chat, so it travels upstream with the rest of your conversation. `private` does not: the prompt and the response stay out of what your harness sends. See [Privacy](/help/plugin/privacy).

**Does choosing a model change my Claude or Codex model?**
No. It changes what Nito uses for its own commands. Inside a full Nito session, your harness's own model picker changes the session. See [Models and Fusion](/help/plugin/models-and-fusion).

**Is the plugin free?**
Free accounts get 10 asks or private questions a month. Fusion and full sessions need a paid plan. See [Plans and usage](/help/plugin/plans-and-usage).
