# Web App FAQ

> Answers by topic.

## Getting Started

**Do I need an account?**
No. **Use Nito without an account** on the login page opens an anonymous chat on the free models. An account keeps history across visits and unlocks paid plans.

**Which sign-in methods work?**
Email and password, Google, and X. One further sign-in option is covered in [Pay with Crypto](/plans/pay-with-crypto).

**What happens on first run?**
The app asks where you want to use Nito first: **Chat with Nito** or **Connect Nito to a tool**. Replay it any time from Help.

**How many free prompts do I get?**
10 text prompts a day on select open-weight models, resetting on the UTC day. The counter is in the chat toolbar. See [Free Usage](/plans/free-usage).

## Models

**Which model should I use?**
Start with the default model, or Nito Auto on a paid plan. The picker shows the full catalog with filters; pick a reasoning-capable model for hard problems, an Encrypted row for an end-to-end encrypted conversation, or an Uncensored row for a model without content filters. See [Choosing a Model](/web-app/choosing-a-model).

**Why can't I select some models?**
The model needs a paid plan, the chat holds Confidential or Encrypted history and the model is weaker (**Incompatible**), or the catalog is temporarily unavailable.

**How do I set a default model?**
Settings, under Chat behavior, **Default model**. New chats start on it and the **+ New** button resets to it.

**Do new models get added?**
Yes, as they release. The picker is the live catalog; [Model List](/models/all-models) lists what is available and at which levels.

**What does the reasoning control do?**
On models that support it, reasoning asks the model to think before answering, at Low, Medium, or High effort. It is off while Fusion is active and on models without reasoning support.

## Privacy and Incognito

**What is the difference between a privacy level and an Incognito chat?**
The privacy level is how the request reaches the model. An Incognito chat is one that is never saved in your browser. Either works without the other. See [Privacy in the App](/web-app/privacy-in-the-app).

**Does Nito keep my prompts?**
No. Nito stores nothing you send or receive, at any level. Chat history exists only in your browser, encrypted; backups and sync store ciphertext only you can open.

**Is a frontier model private?**
Frontier models run at Anonymous: the provider receives the request without your identity attached, and its own retention applies. Open-weight models at Private and above add zero data retention, sealed hardware, and on-device encryption. See [Privacy Levels](/privacy/levels).

**Can I use Encrypted in the browser?**
Yes. Pick an Encrypted row in the picker. Replies arrive whole rather than streaming, attachments are parsed in the browser, and raw image uploads are not sent yet. How it works end to end: [Encrypted Inference](/privacy/encrypted).

**Why won't my chat let me switch to a weaker model?**
It holds Confidential or Encrypted history, and the app never downgrades a protected chat in place. Start a new chat for the weaker route.

**How do I check that a Confidential reply really ran in sealed hardware?**
Open the **Attestation Report** under the reply, expand **Verify it yourself**, and download the proof. The hardware quote is yours to verify. See [Receipts and Proof](/web-app/receipts-and-proof).

## Chats and History

**Where is my history stored?**
In this browser, encrypted. There is no server-side copy. Backups (Plus and up) and Live sync (Advanced and up) carry it to other devices as ciphertext. See [Backups and Sync](/web-app/backups-and-sync).

**Does signing out delete my chats?**
No. Signing out leaves the encrypted history in the browser. **Purge chat data** in Settings under Storage removes it.

**Can I organize chats?**
Yes: folders, pinning, drag-to-reorder, and search across titles and message text. See [Chat Basics](/web-app/chat-basics).

**What is the "Older messages summarized" banner?**
Older turns of a long chat are summarized so it keeps fitting the context window. The archived turns stay in your local transcript.

**Can I export a chat?**
**Download** in the toolbar writes Markdown with front matter.

**How do I share a chat?**
**Share** creates a browser-encrypted copy and a link whose fragment holds the key. Incognito and empty chats cannot be shared. See [Sharing](/web-app/sharing).

## Files and Tools

**What can I attach?**
Images (PNG, JPEG, WebP) on vision-capable models, and text, Markdown, code, PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, and XLS documents on any model. Documents are converted to text before sending. See [Files and Images](/web-app/files-and-images).

**What do Client, Server, and Auto mean on a file?**
Where the document is turned into text: your browser, the gateway, or whichever fits the file. On Encrypted chats Client is the default and Auto is hidden.

**Can the model search the web?**
Yes, when the model supports it. **Tools** in the + menu switches Web search and Web fetch; both are on in new chats. See [Web Search and Tools](/web-app/web-search-and-tools).

**Can I generate images?**
Not today. Nito reads images on vision-capable models and does not create them.

## Fusion

**What is Fusion?**
One prompt sent to two or three models at once, returning each answer plus a synthesis. Included in every paid plan. See [Fusion](/web-app/fusion).

**Can I mix Confidential and Anonymous models?**
No. Confidential models fuse only with other Confidential models. Anonymous and Private can mix.

**Why does Encrypted Fusion ask me to synthesize?**
The answers are decrypted in your browser, so the synthesis is a separate encrypted request you trigger with **Synthesize in Encrypted**.

## Plans and Usage

**What does a paid plan add?**
Every available open-weight and frontier model, Uncensored and Encrypted models, Fusion, Nito Auto, prompt enhancement, encrypted backups, and no daily cap on select open-weight models. Advanced adds higher limits, device sync, usage rollover, and Workbench. See [Plans](/plans).

**Where do I see my usage?**
Settings > Billing shows the share of the cycle remaining. Free accounts see the daily counter in the chat toolbar. See [Checking Usage](/plans/checking-usage).

**Does my plan cover the plugin too?**
Yes. Plans are account-wide. See [Plans](/plans).

## Account

**How do I change my password or turn on two-factor authentication?**
Settings > Security, alongside linked identities, active sessions, and connected tokens. See [Settings](/web-app/settings) and [Sign In and Accounts](/web-app/sign-in-and-accounts).

**Can I link more than one sign-in method?**
Yes. Link an email, Google, or X from Security. The last active identity cannot be removed.

**Where are API keys?**
In the Developer console at app.trynito.ai/api, not in Settings. See [Developer Console](/web-app/developer-console).

**How do I delete local data?**
**Purge chat data** in Settings under Storage. The account stays intact.
