# Uninstall

> Remove the plugin, sign out, remove the tool, and clear session data.

Removal is five parts: clear the in-chat connection, take the plugin out of your harness, sign out of every local profile, remove the command line tool, and delete anything a session left on disk.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Clear the in-chat connection">
    Do this while the plugin is still installed, so your harness can find the credential it holds for in-chat commands.

    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="Claude Code">
        In a chat, open `/mcp`, select **Nito**, and choose **Clear authentication**.
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Codex">
        ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
        codex mcp logout nito
        ```
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove the plugin">
    <Tabs>
      <Tab title="Claude Code">
        ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
        claude plugin uninstall nito@nito
        claude plugin marketplace remove nito
        ```
      </Tab>

      <Tab title="Codex">
        ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
        codex plugin remove nito@nito
        codex plugin marketplace remove nito
        ```
      </Tab>
    </Tabs>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign out of every profile">
    The command line tool keeps a credential per profile. Open `~/.nito/agent-profiles.json`, note each name under `profiles`, and sign out of each one, including the active profile. A bare `nito agent logout` signs out only the active profile.

    ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
    # Remove the local Nito credential for one profile from your keychain
    nito agent logout --profile <name>
    ```

    Keep the profile file until every logout succeeds. It holds the identifiers the tool needs to remove each keychain entry and revoke each grant.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Remove the command line tool">
    ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
    # Uninstall the nito binary
    npm uninstall -g @nito-ai/cli
    ```

    If you installed the binary another way, it lives at `~/.local/bin/nito` by default (on Windows, `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Nito\bin\nito.exe`). Remove that file.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Delete local profiles and session data">
    A [session](/plugin/commands/session) keeps prompt history and transcripts in a dedicated Nito profile directory, and the steps above leave your local profiles and preferences in place. Remove them separately:

    ```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
    # Delete Nito profiles, preferences, and session history
    rm -rf ~/.nito
    ```

    Deletion is permanent and `~/.nito` can hold more than one named environment, so check what is there first. Skip this step to keep the record of work you did inside a session.
  </Step>
</Steps>

These five steps remove Nito from your machine. Your Nito account and any billing carry on as they are; manage those from your account in the browser, see [Billing](/plans/billing).
