Every model has an ID: the model value on the API, the argument to /nito:model or --model in the Plugin, and the name under each row of the Browser App picker.

The Shape

You hold no accounts with the makers. The ID is the catalog name Nito uses so one account reaches them all.

The :confidential and :encrypted Markers

A model that offers a stronger level gets a separate entry, with the level on the end of the name:
These are separate catalog entries. You never add the marker yourself; you pick the entry. The Model List shows which models carry them. The :encrypted entry is available in the Browser App today and on the API with the Encrypted headers. In the Plugin, choosing one returns a message pointing you to Anonymous, Private, or Confidential. See Encrypted.

Level in the Name

The plain entry, the :confidential entry, and the :encrypted entry are different models at different levels. The level cannot drift, and it never silently downgrades: a call the model cannot serve at its level fails with a clear message. See Privacy Levels.

Logical Names

The ID is a stable public name. Nito maps x-ai/grok-4.6 to whichever backend serves it, and the name stays the same as the plumbing changes.

In Practice

  • Confirm IDs from the picker, /nito:models, or GET /v1/models; the catalog changes over time.
  • A :confidential marker means Confidential. No marker means the model’s own level, Anonymous or Private.
